  • UNIFIL says IDF forces fire impacted close by, one soldier ‘wounded by gunfire, explosion sound’

    Israeli operations affected one of their patrol, with gunfire and an explosion impacting near their forces, according to a report by UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon.

    The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported on Friday that Israeli operations interfered with one of their patrols, with gunfire and an explosion impacting near their forces.

    “Heavy machine gunfire from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) positions south of the Blue Line impacted close to a UNIFIL patrol inspecting a roadblock in the village of Bastarra. The gunfire followed a grenade explosion nearby,” said the statement.

    “While there was no damage to UNIFIL assets, the sound of the gunfire and the explosion left one peacekeeper slightly injured with an ear concussion,” it added.

    In another incident, UNIFIL reported that a patrol in the village of Kfar Shouba heard machine gun fire from Israeli troops near their position.

    UNIFIL leaks information to Hezbollah

    UNIFIL and the IDF had been clashing in the last couple of months, with the UN’s force targeting IDF surveillance drones and allegedly leaking information to Hezbollah, according to a report by Army Radio.

    On November 30, senior IDF officials fear that photographs and documentation taken by UNIFIL peacekeepers of Israeli military operations on the Lebanon-Israel border are being leaked to Hezbollah, according to Army Radio reports.

    The IDF also discovered an official UNIFIL document which referred to Israel as “the enemy,” which, after Israel demanded answers, Army Radio claimed that UNIFIL apologized for the phrasing, claiming they had “copied the wording of the Lebanese army” and had “forgotten” to correct it.

    Additionally, a drone incident occurred on October 27, when UNIFIL reported that Israeli drones flying over UNIFIL patrols in an “aggressive manner,” stating that “the peacekeepers applied necessary defensive countermeasures to neutralize the drone.”

    These situations all took place in the context of an imminent UNIFIL withdrawal from Lebanon, with the force set to remain fully operational in the country until 2026, when the operation will begin a year-long “orderly and safe drawdown and withdrawal.”

    The withdrawal was approved by the United Nations Security Council, with a French resolution that “requests UNIFIL to cease its operations on December 31, 2026, and to start from this date and within one year its orderly and safe… withdrawal… in close consultation with the government of Lebanon.”

    An altercation involving students and adults near a school Monday afternoon ended with gunfire, police said.

    Nobody was injured, but a building at the Sylvester Greenwood Academy in the 800 block of Chanslor Avenue was damaged. In a statement, police said somebody fired at least one shot after the confrontation happened.

  • 2 Pennsylvania state police officers shot during vehicle chase, suspect dead

    Two state police officers in Pennsylvania pursuing a vehicle were shot Wednesday in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect who was killed, authorities said.The troopers were airlifted by a medical helicopter to WellSpan York Hospital to be treated, according to investigators. They are in critical and serious condition, Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement.Officials have not yet released the names of the injured troopers. They were responding to a theft call at a sporting goods store. Several suspects had fled in a vehicle, the statement said.   • Man hospitalized after he was shot outside of a Miami restaurant, police say

    A man was shot outside a restaurant in Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood Sunday morning, police say.

    Just before 11 a.m., the shooting occurred outside Republica Food & Lounge, located at 1260 NW 36th St., according to Miami police. The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was conscious.

    Officers spoke to the people who brought the man to the emergency room, according to law enforcement officials, who didn’t elaborate further.

    Investigators later located a shooting scene outside the restaurant, per police. As of Sunday evening, it’s unclear if anyone has been arrested in connection to the shooting.

    4 killed, 18 injured in mass shooting at popular Birmingham, Alabama neighborhood

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Four people were killed and more than a dozen were injured in a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday night.

    Police said officers responded to reports of a major shooting. “Officers are on the scene of multiple people shot with possibly multiple casualties,” the Birmingham Police Department wrote in a post to X.

    The shooting occurred in the Five Points South area of the city, the post added.

    ABC News Birmingham affiliate WBMA reported that at least four people were killed and dozens injured in the shooting. At least four of the injured have life-threatening injuries, WBMA said.

    As of 6 a.m. CST on Sunday, officials say 18 others were also hurt during the shooting. Their injuries range from non-life-threatening to life-threatening.

    WBMA said the shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday night in the busy Five Points South area.

    Three of the four victims died on the scene, WBMA said. The fourth victim died at the hospital.

    Investigators said they made no arrests and believe there were multiple shooters who fired upon a large group of people who were outside in a public area in the 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue South.

    Police are investigating whether a gun fitted with a so-called “switch” — which allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire at a faster rate — was used in the shooting, WBMA said.

    The Birmingham Police Department has requested FBI and ATF assistance with the investigation, WBMA reported. Authorities are also seeking information from witnesses as they work to determine who were the intended targets of the shooting.

    4 killed, 18 injured in mass shooting at popular Birmingham, Alabama neighborhood

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Four people were killed and more than a dozen were injured in a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday night.

    Police said officers responded to reports of a major shooting. “Officers are on the scene of multiple people shot with possibly multiple casualties,” the Birmingham Police Department wrote in a post to X.

    The shooting occurred in the Five Points South area of the city, the post added.

    ABC News Birmingham affiliate WBMA reported that at least four people were killed and dozens injured in the shooting. At least four of the injured have life-threatening injuries, WBMA said.

    As of 6 a.m. CST on Sunday, officials say 18 others were also hurt during the shooting. Their injuries range from non-life-threatening to life-threatening.

    WBMA said the shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday night in the busy Five Points South area.

    Three of the four victims died on the scene, WBMA said. The fourth victim died at the hospital.

    Investigators said they made no arrests and believe there were multiple shooters who fired upon a large group of people who were outside in a public area in the 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue South.

    Police are investigating whether a gun fitted with a so-called “switch” — which allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire at a faster rate — was used in the shooting, WBMA said.

    The Birmingham Police Department has requested FBI and ATF assistance with the investigation, WBMA reported. Authorities are also seeking information from witnesses as they work to determine who were the intended targets of the shooting.

    A man suspected of spraying gunfire from atop a Marina del Rey apartment complex over the weekend was identified Monday by authorities.

    The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 41-year-old Victoryloc Nguyen, who remains jailed in lieu of $2-million bail.

    No one was injured in the Saturday night shooting in the 4100 block of Via Marina, according to a written statement from the Sheriff’s Department.

    The incident began at 10:15 p.m. when deputies from the Marina del Rey sheriff’s station responded to reports of gunshots from inside the apartment complex.

    Later, a sheriff’s helicopter “observed a male suspect on the roof of the location, firing rounds from a rifle,” the statement read.

    The shooting prompted deputies from other nearby stations to respond to the location, and armored SWAT-style vehicles were dispatched.

    Videos posted on social media show a man shooting from the balcony of an apartment who can be heard saying: “I can shoot a car right now and no one would give a s—.” In other videos, bystanders shelter at home or take cover while gunfire can be heard in the background.

    Witnesses told KTLA that as many as 100 rounds were fired from the building. Jeff Rubin, who was hiding with his wife in their apartment’s bathroom, said there were at least 20 minutes of silence.

    “Then another round of gunshots and that went on for three hours,” he told the news station.

    A pair of photographs of the scene released by the sheriff’s SWAT unit show two rifles, a handgun and tactical gear lying on the ground after the suspect’s arrest early Sunday.

    City News Service reported that the suspect was a self-employed chef who specializes in organic traditional Vietnamese cuisine and might have been live-streaming the shooting.

    Authorities said the motive for the shooting was not known. Nguyen is due in court Tuesday.

    A man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly shooting multiple rounds of gunfire from the top of a Marina del Rey apartment building, scaring neighbors and drawing a large emergency response, authorities said.

    No one was injured as a result of the heavy gunfire, which was sprayed down on the streets along the 4100 block of Via Marina, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

    An arrest was made after 911 calls came in after 10 p.m. about relentless gunfire in the affluent seaside Los Angeles neighborhood. The suspect — whose name has not been released — is in custody, and an investigation is ongoing, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

    A livestream of the incident appeared to be posted by the shooter, according to City News Service. Those videos appear to have been removed from the internet.

    An L.A. County Sheriff’s Department helicopter observed a male suspect on the roof of an apartment complex “firing rounds from a rifle,” according to a news release.

    Armored SWAT-style vehicles responded to the active shooter scene and closed down streets in the Via Marina area late Saturday night.

    Witnesses told City News Service that the man is a chef.

    LAPD investigating gunfire at graffitied skyscraper in downtown L.A.

    Gunshots rang out just before midnight Friday at a vacant skyscraper that taggers recently covered in graffiti across the street from Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

    Officers responded to Oceanwide Plaza on Figueroa Street late Friday night after receiving a call of shots fired but found no victim or suspects, according to LAPD Officer Jader Chaves.

    Police recovered two spent bullet casings at the scene and the investigation is continuing, he said.

    The incident comes after vandals spray painted at least 27 floors of the skyscraper this week, judging by aerial video of the building.

    Early Tuesday morning, officers responded to a vandalism call on South Figueroa Street, the site of the unfinished and long-idle Oceanwide Plaza development, according to the LAPD.

    The department’s Air Support Division reported seeing more than a dozen suspects trespassing and possibly spray painting the building.

    By the time more officers arrived, all but two suspects had fled the location, authorities said. The two — L.A. residents Victor Daniel Ramirez, 35, and Roberto Perez, 25 — were arrested and transported to the Central Area station, where they were cited for trespassing on private property and released.

    Two days later, officers returned to the construction site in the early afternoon to respond to another vandalism call, this time involving spray painting on the 30th floor, according to the LAPD. Officers were told by the site’s security guards that the suspects fled the building in a car.

    Police found a car matching the description they’d been given and told the driver to stop, but the driver didn’t yield, the department alleged. Officers eventually found the vehicle a short distance away and the driver was cited for failure to yield to an officer. The investigation is still ongoing.

    Oceanwide Plaza was once one of the biggest real estate development projects in Los Angeles, but construction was halted five years ago when its Chinese developer ran out of money. The $1-billion mixed-use project was supposed to feature hotel and retail space as well as luxury apartments and condominiums.

    The buildings have remained unfinished ever since in the popular LA Live complex, which includes shops, restaurants and the Grammy Museum. Crypto.com Arena anchors the complex and will host the 66th Grammy Awards on Sunday.

    A gunman sprayed a Metrolink train with bullets late Wednesday night at a Palmdale station, leaving two people hospitalized and a passenger car pocked with holes.

    The shooting occurred near the platform where the northbound Antelope Valley Line train 229 was departing for Lancaster. Authorities said two people outside the train were hit as bullets also struck the passenger car.

    The train’s passengers reported the gunfire, said Scott Johnson.

    One of the shooting victims was wounded in a hip and the other in a calf, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Stowers. Their injuries were not life-threatening, he said. Emergency responders took them to a hospital for treatment.

    Some media outlets said a woman injured her head while dodging gunfire, but Stowers was unable to confirm those reports.

    Authorities had no information on what led to the incident or the identity of the shooter as detectives continued their investigation.

    The train experienced a nearly one-hour delay as L.A. County sheriff’s deputies conducted the investigation. Metrolink has removed the bullet-damaged passenger car from service.

    No other Metrolink services were affected.

    When asked about safety concerns among passengers who take the Antelope Valley Line, Scott said, “Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and armed security officers regularly ride Antelope Valley Line trains to provide safety and security.”

    A man was shot and killed Tuesday night as he was dining at an L.A. Live restaurant. Another restaurant-goer was injured.

    The shooting took place inside Fixins Soul Kitchen, a restaurant at the downtown entertainment complex, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

    The incident was reported at 6:15 p.m. at the restaurant at 800 W. Olympic Blvd., near Crypto.com Arena.

    LAPD Cmdr. Lillian Carranza said the preliminary investigation determined the gunman entered the restaurant where the two victims were separately dining. He shot a 43-year-old man, who collapsed on the ground, and a woman, who suffered a graze wound.

    Carranza said the male victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family. The female victim was treated at the scene.

    The suspected gunman fled the scene in a white Honda, according to authorities. No arrests have been made.

    Representatives for Fixins Soul Kitchen, which also has locations in Sacramento and Tulsa, Okla., issued a statement Tuesday night in response to the shooting.

    “Fixins Soul Kitchen is shocked and saddened by the incident that occurred this evening at our L.A. location,” the statement read. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones.”

    Figueroa Street was closed between Olympic Boulevard and Chick Hearn Court for police to conduct an investigation. Police request that any witnesses of the incident call the LAPD tip line at (800) 222-8477.

    Six juveniles were briefly detained after gunshots rang out near Northridge Fashion Center on Friday evening, but no one was injured and no arrests were made, police said.

    Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Kelly Muniz said gunfire was reported near the AMC Theater outside the mall around 6 p.m. Police detained six juveniles running from the scene but later released them as none possessed a weapon or had visible injuries.

    Shell casings were recovered, Muniz said. Television stations reported that a glass window had been shattered at a sushi restaurant near the theater.

    The shooting happened on Black Friday, generally considered to be one of the biggest retail shopping days of the year, though the large crowds that used to descend on malls have decreased in recent years with the rise of E-commerce and the extension of discounts through the weekend by most stores.

    Two cars were shot at on the 91 freeway in Corona on Friday night, and the driver of one was hit in the leg by a bullet, law enforcement officials told KTLA.

    The shootings took place around 10:30 p.m. near McKinley St., according to KTLA. A man hit by gunfire was driving east. He was hospitalized and authorities said he was stable. Another car driven by a woman also heading east was hit twice by bullets, but she was not injured, police said.

    No arrests have been made and no information on the shooter has been released, police told KTLA.
