  • 25 Rewards Determined Smokers Could Earn With Marlboro Miles in the ’90s

    [ad_1]

Marlboro Miles offered smokers a way to earn rewards simply by buying cigarettes.

Here is how it worked and examples of some of the big-ticket items you could get with Marlboro Miles.

    How Marlboro Miles Worked

It’s hard to believe you could, at one time, get rewarded for smoking.

Even while anti-smoking campaigns were blasted across TV in the 1990s, smokers could earn clothing, camping equipment, and even coffee pots from buying more cigarettes.

The Marlboro Miles program was a popular promotion throughout the ’90s and early 2000s. Each pack or carton of Marlboro cigarettes came with a specific number of miles listed on the box.

Smokers could tear the miles from the box and save them up for various rewards.

Basically, the more you smoked, the more you earned. Or maybe you had a family member who worked at a store that stocked cigarettes and would tear them off the empty cartons. (Thanks for helping me get a Marlboro tracksuit, Grandma.)

A rival brand’s Camel Cash also existed around this time, but it was Marlboro who seemed to go all out with its offerings.

Every year or so, Marlboro would release a new catalog of items that could be earned by cashing in miles. Some were as small as a deck of cards, while others could get you a full set of luggage.

For the big collectors, you could earn something as large as a pool table. Here is a look at some of the coolest items you could earn with Marlboro Miles.

  • 10 Movie Series That Made Multiple Sequels At the Same Time

    [ad_1]

We’ve all heard plenty of horror stories about successful films riding the rush of critical and box office acclaim, announcing a bunch of planned sequels that are then delayed, or stuck in development hell for decades, or simply never come out at all. There’s really only one foolproof way to stop this well known phenomenon from happening: make all your movies at the same time.

That’s not exactly feasible for your average production — most directors and cast focus on making one movie at a time — but for movie franchises with big studio money and beloved stars and veteran directors on board, it happens more often than you’d think. Usually productions employ this tactic when there are sequels to a successful first film to be made, but sometimes the first film and its sequel(s) are made simultaneously, both to streamline the production process and to make sure there’s actually something to release when production is done.

This is called “back-to-back” production, and it has plenty of perks. Audiences won’t have to wait so long for the next movie in the series. Studios can save money by only transporting everyone to and from an on location shoot once. Plot arcs across films will make more sense because they were written and filmed at the same time. Subsequent movies will have a cohesive aesthetic design, and will look visually like they’re multiple parts of a whole. Here, we’ve gathered ten of the most famous back-to-back film productions in movie history, and explained exactly why they did it.

  • When You Ask to Be Roasted and Get Totally Throttled

    [ad_1]

You know the drill by now. Random people on the internet ask to be roasted, and strangers absolutely obliterate them online. It’s an interesting concept, but the no holds barred nature makes it feel like early internet (which we need a bit of sometimes.)

So without further ado, here’s another batch of folks being roasted on the interwebs.

    Enjoy!

  • Bo Burnham is Funny

    [ad_1]

Bo Burnham is one of those rare comedians where every layer of what he does is a joke; the writing, the timing, the meta-commentary, and even the discomfort. He’s funny in ways most comedians aren’t even trying to be.

He’s also interesting. He plays a character… which is also himself… whish is also a parody of himself.

He’s always juggling between the persona, the real guy, the critique of the persona, and the critique of the critique.

His comedy is very layered. It can be a mix of very funny but then also thought-provoking. He mixes high IQ and low IQ humor effortlessly, which makes his performance a rollercoaster — never quite sure what to expect.

Bo Burnham is very original and his musical comedy encompasses all of these elements. I highly recommend watching Inside or Make Happy (both on Netflix) or any of his OG stuff on his YouTube channel.

His musical jokes are too tough to transfer into visuals, but these snappy one-liners work just fine.

    Have at it:

  • 10 Famous Rom-Com Couples With Zero Chemistry

    [ad_1]

There aren’t many things that are worse than sitting down to watch a movie that promises romance, excitement, tension, and thrills, only to discover a few minutes in that the leads have no chemistry with each other. There’s a reason that productions of any sort tend to do “chemistry reads” with their cast members to see how well they work together, even before anyone is officially cast. This chemistry doesn’t always have to be romantic — but in a rom-com, it definitely does.

Still, movies come out and their audiences are disappointed by the lack of spark between the lead actors. Even consummate professionals, rom-com veterans, or simply actors who are really great in other stuff sometimes can’t jump this simple hurdle, and since the movie rides only on the strength of its romance, these films often feel lacking some essential element. It’s difficult to say what makes great chemistry and what doesn’t, but you certainly notice the lack when there isn’t any.

Because we love to torture ourselves, we revisited some of the most famously unbelievable couples in rom-com history, whose actors, professionals though they are, just couldn’t seem to hit it off. Some of these movies are famous flops, and some were hits but failed to stand the test of time. Maybe there’s a weird energy, or maybe they just aren’t playing off each other’s vibe the way that they should, or maybe they’re simply unbelievable as a romantic pairing together. For whatever reason, these movies tried to make it work, but left the audience on read.

  • These Are Some Rare Feelings On Display

    [ad_1]

May it be the early morning coffee with a view or some fog rolling in. May it be a nice stretch with the sun shining on your face. May it be a great facecrack marketplace purchase that reminds you how exciting life can be. May it be all these things (especially in this gallery) and more.

These are some rare feelings summed up. Those moments you anticipate or wait for, big or small. Those moments that may only ever come once every couple hours, months or years. Those close moments. Those far moments. Those moments in between.

I think we can all collectively agree that feeling something, is better than feeling nothing. And these – boy, these are special feelings.

  • 10 Movies With the Most Wildly Different Alternate Endings

    [ad_1]

We all know the endings of our favorite movies, right? The Hobbits save Middle-earth from Sauron. Butch and Sundance leap out of hiding straight into a hail of bullets. “Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.”

Movies tend to stick to one single, memorable ending, because that’s what we all like and expect. A story should have a conclusion, and the conclusion should be definitive. Otherwise, an audience may get confused, or the message of the movie may get muddled.

Because moviemaking is such a complicated business, sometimes extra stuff gets shot and never used. (Really, that happens most of the time.) Often, some of that extra footage has to do with the ending. Maybe there was an extra few seconds that were cut, or a scene that wasn’t quite necessary or didn’t work. Or maybe there were multiple possibilities for the ending of the movie, and only one ended up being used.

Thanks to DVD special features and other such avenues, filmmakers can show us all this extra stuff, including all the extra possibilities for a film’s final shot. Maybe the original ending was too confusing to test audiences and the studio mandated edits, or maybe they weren’t exactly sure which ending would work until they were piecing it all together, or maybe a movie has multiple endings on purpose in order to play around with its own format. Whatever the reason, there are movies out there that have more endings than others, and we’ve gathered the best ones together in this list. (Spoiler alert, obviously.)
