  • The Best Tips On How To Avoid Weekend Couchlock

The Best Tips On How To Avoid Weekend Couchlock

Many a Saturday has been spoiled by too much fun on a Friday night.  Hangovers have been a weekend curse for generations. While it is fun to let loose, if you go to far it can spoil part of the weekend.  With marijuana mainstreaming, it is easy to enjoy Friday night after a busy work work and totally relax, but too sometimes you can have too much of a good thing and boom – couchlock!

RELATED: Hangover? Here’s How To Stop It Before It Strikes

Couchlock is a term used to describe a particular state of intense physical relaxation, a stoned feeling, and impaired movement control. This occurs as a result of using certain cannabis strains. It is an experience in which someone feels so overwhelmingly relaxed they literally feel glued to the couch or chair where they are sitting. It becomes mentally difficult to get up or move freely. Here are tips on how to avoid couchlock.

Know yourself  You know your tolerance so dose correctly to get to where you want.  Be careful about going bit. Remember it takes a little while for the full effects to kick in so stay patient during the process. It’s easy to over consume if you don’t wait until the peak of your high. If you are prone to couchlock, dial back your indica use and go with a blend or a sativa.

Drink your juice – Drink your juice Shelby has been a meme for yearsIf you are finding yourself nodding off on the couch, consider grabbing a sugary soft drink, energy drink or sweet snack. Sugar-loaded treats are brimming with glucose, which will give you a boost of insulin and energy. Juice, sugar sodas, a milkshake are all good.

Eat – Like drinking, it is always better to start with something on your stomach. Food will help stave off some of the most ardent impacts of weed. Food helps the body as it processes and absorbs the chemicals that you’ve ingested. And it might keep from the munchies if you are already full.

Move – Couchlock sneaks up on you as you are relaxed and not moving.  Don’t let your body get too comfortable avoid succumbing to the sedative qualities of weed. A quick walk, dance to great music or just change locations – living room, kitchen, dining table can make a bigger impact than you might think. Fresh air can make a difference allowing you stay a bit more alert.

Talk – Making your brain engaging in a little conversation, especially something you enjoy can make a big difference.  Find a friend and enjoy a nice convo while letting your mind open up!  Just don’t overpromise while excited.

Have a great weekend and enjoy yourself.

    Vinyls and Marijuana Go Together

What is old is new again, records stores are making a comeback. Record Store Day shares a celebration day with cannabis community.  Like 4/20, it involved by a bunch of afficandios lifting up independent retailers and raising awareness and celebrating the multi-faceted art. Taking a page of Free Comic Book Day, it started in 2007  and is celebrated at retailers around the world. Hundreds of artists participate iby making special appearances, performances, fan meet ups  and the issuing of special vinyls.  It makes sense they share a day, vinyls and marijuana go together.

RELATED: 5 Morning Activities To Help You Feel Happier

Music and marijuana are a perfect match. Marijuana makes music almost come alive in a 3-D fashion. Marijuana’s properties improves current attention, prevents memory seeking, and helps the mind concentrate on music making it appear more fresh and intriguing. It helps the body concentrate on the current moment. Both marijuana and vinyl are going strong.  The legal cannabis industry just hit $29.5 billion for 2023 and the vinyl industry revenues grew 17% to $1.2 billion in 2022. This is the sixteenth consecutive year of growth and accounted for 71% of physical format revenues in physical stores.

Of course, what vinyl pairs best with marijuana? Here are some suggestions.

Pink Floyd – Dark Side Of The Moon

Pink Floyd’s classic allows the consumer to wallow in philosophy and explore the corners of the mind. While enjoying the plant, thought and preconceived ideas can be taken apart and reconstructed. The song’s rhythm will make feel as if every bone and muscle vibrant and independent.

De La Soul – Three Feet High And Rising

De La’s beat is great for a happy high. Fully perfected its alchemical balance of fun and wisdom, with a heavy dash of silliness, it lets your soul escape into a colorful playground.

Tame Impala – Yes I’m Changing

This psychedelic rock band sets the mood perfectly. The main band member, Kevin Parker, shared he has no recollection of creating this song and it was as if someone else wrote it. What more can be said and it is also a great reminder we are always changing and healing from our past.

    The Beatles

From Yellow Submarine to All You Need Is Love, the bands songs intertwines with a high and brings you essence to the forefront allowing you to feel, love, thing and be.

  • Are You Really Ready To Try THC-P

Are You Really Ready To Try THC-P

The high holiday of 4/20 is right around the corner and marijuana aficionados are thinking about celebrating. Some will go all out, other will chill and relax. It is a major holiday for dispensaries and a great time to experiment or go with the old faithful. But for some weed veterans, they might want to consider expanding.  But are you really ready to try THC-P.

In 2019, Italian scientists isolated Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabiphorol from a synthetic medical marijuana strain. Abbreviated as THC-P, THCP, and THCp, this minor cannabinoid appears to act on endocannabinoid receptors in the brain with incredible efficiency. This binding ability makes THC-P is the most potent psychoactive cannabinoid yet. Users report it feels even stronger than Delta-9 (standard THC).

RELATED: People Who Use Weed Also Do More Of Another Fun Thing

The cannabinoid is also preferred by hemp lovers because of its rich collection of psychoactive derivatives. While obeying federal laws, THC-P offers consumers a perfect way to feel the intoxicating effects of weed. It has been observed to bind uniquely to the CB1 receptors. Potent psychoactive compounds like THC-P offer users a one-of-a-kind experience. However, it is imperative to dose the compound correctly as you could easily get overwhelmed by it. New users are always advised to start with the lowest amount possible.

Photo by Paweł Czerwiński via Unsplash

THC-P is certainly more potent than THC due to its 33X receptor-binding affinity. But it doesn’t mean this compound gets users 33 times higher, Most say it feels about five to 10 times stronger than Delta-9 THC. It is a powerful cannabinoid intoxicating even to the most tolerant user. You can use your regular marijuana tolerance to determine the appropriate dose. If you have never tried other existing forms of THC, this not the starter level.

RELATED: 6 Low-THC Cannabis Strains To Help You Relax And Chill Out

THC-P products come in different strains. Each strain has its own unique cannabinoid and terpene profile. The adequate dose of THCP might range between 1 and 4mg. Consumers should begin with a 0.3mg dosage and work their way up. It’s easy to take too much THCP and get unwanted side effects, so it’s best to start with tiny dosages. It is always advisable to stick to one strain.

It can be consumed via joint, vape, sublingual or ingestible product. The method used will  determines how fast the compounds will be broken down and absorbed into the body. Vapes offer the highest potency effects as the compounds are immediately bioavailable. And be sure you are are you really ready to try THC-P.

  • Vaporwave visionary George Clanton slides into Orlando on 4/20

Vaporwave visionary George Clanton slides into Orlando on 4/20

In the early 2010s, a sense of yearning for the recent past captured the attention of Internet users worldwide. The retro revival set its sights and sounds on the 1980s and ’90s, rebooting the decades’ aesthetics for an online generation.

Soundtracking this revival was a new style of lo-fi electronic music seemingly made in — and for — the moment. Known among the cognoscenti as “vaporwave,” the nostalgia-based subgenre emerged with a one-two punch of audio and art primed for virtual virality. The scene was a familiar one, even if you’d only seen it on Tumblr: Greek sculptures on grids going nowhere, a neon sunset foreshadowing the warm pop waiting inside.

Something about that nameless nostalgia appealed to George Clanton, a Virginia-based artist whose penchant for the past manifested in a solo pop project called Mirror Kisses. Named after an Echo and the Bunnymen lyric, the project was intended to be “a spoof on ’80s music” for Clanton to share with his friends.

“The first Mirror Kisses album — that I’ve since erased from the Internet — was me making what I thought was a Human League record,” Clanton says. But when “everyone pretty much agreed [it] was way better than everything else [he] had done,” Clanton began taking the project more seriously. “Instead of making jokey style music like I did in the beginning,” he says, “I started getting interested in integrating more of my personal life and artistic best.”

After releasing a pair of Mirror Kisses albums — Bad Dreams (2012) and Heartbeats (2013) — Clanton participated anonymously in the vaporwave scene under the moniker ESPRIT 空想 (Chinese for “fantasy”). Much to his surprise, the effort was “a huge success, at least in the vaporwave sphere,” that paved the way for future trips into the past.

While simultaneously working on the next Mirror Kisses album, Clanton realized the project’s name no longer fit: “The music had become so serious and personal,” he says, “and I got sick of telling people the name of my band was Mirror Kisses.” So he went back to the basics. “I felt like this was my big opportunity to change my band name to George Clanton. I knew I wouldn’t get sick of it.”

The change did him good. In 2015, Clanton released 100% Electronica — the first album under his own name — on his own independent record label, 100% Electronica (co-founded by Clanton and then-girlfriend/now-wife Neggy Gemmy, née Lindsey French). Initially formed to release Clanton and French’s music, the label broke new musical ground by releasing the first-ever vaporwave vinyl record, ESPRIT 空想’s Girls Only 7-inch EP.

Hot on the heels of the albums’ success, Clanton took the wax wave worldwide. “There were a lot of artists I really loved that did not have vinyl,” he says of his desire to start the label. One of those artists was the Australian duo S U R F I N G, whose vaporwave classic Deep Fantasy was the first 100% Electronica album not released by Clanton or French.

Whether he’s running the label, working on his own projects, or coordinating an upcoming tour, Clanton says, “It’s always been driven by music, all of my passions in life.” And when it comes to music, he always turns it up to 11: “To me, the music just doesn’t sound right unless it’s super loud.”

Perhaps a relic of his younger punk days, Clanton’s love for loudness often shocks fans expecting his live show to be a calming experience. “A lot of people — and they’re not wrong for this — listen to my music to chill out to,” he says, adding that “isn’t [his] intention, generally speaking.” For Clanton, the louder the music, the better. “Whichever is the loudest show on stage ends up being my favorite for the tour,” he says. “It can never be loud enough.”

Clanton visits Orlando for the first time on 4/20, topping a stacked Abbey lineup featuring L.A. electro punx Sextile, St. Louis siblings Frost Children, and Dade County darlings Donzii. Warning: The volume — among other things — will be high.

Long Island dispensary to celebrate 4/20 as ‘Happiest Day Ever’ | Long Island Business News

    Listen to this article

While florists thrive on special occasions like Valentines Day and Mother’s Day, another plant-based business is going all-in for a popular unofficial holiday this Saturday.

Happy Days Dispensary in Farmingdale, Long Island’s largest adult-use cannabis store, is planning plenty of celebratory events for 4/20, including a unique collaboration with a local brewer.

A showcase of some of the more than 1,000 products at the Happy Days Dispensary. / LIBN photo

After opening a little over four months ago, Happy Days has enjoyed much success. So far, the 5,300-square-foot dispensary at 105 Route 109 has averaged weekly sales of $420,000 (no joke), according to its owners. Offering more than 1,000 products ranging from a wide variety of flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, tinctures, tablets, beverages and more, Happy Days serves thousands of customers each week, with more than 1,000 coming through its doors on Fridays and Saturdays.

Happy Days is owned by three partners: Paul Lepore, a former nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industry veteran, and two restaurateurs, Jay Grossman, who owns Refuge in Melville and K Pacho in New Hyde Park, and Keith Hart, owner of Barrique Kitchen & Wine Bar and Argyle Grill & Tavern in Babylon. Hart also owns The Hart Agency, a marketing firm specializing in the liquor industry.

While Grossman and Hart provide expertise on hospitality and marketing, Lepore focuses on the more scientific and biological aspects of cannabis consumption. The owners say one of the most important services they provide is dispelling cannabis stereotypes and educating first-time and newer customers on the different forms of the plant and how cannabinoids may metabolize in different people.

Happy Days, which carries some products grown here on Long Island, also favors promoting other local businesses, which is apparent by the dispensary’s 4/20 events and collaborations.

“As born-and-raised Long Islanders, we always look to evolve and support other businesses within our community,” Lepore told LIBN.

Happy Days IPA from Sand City Brewing. / Courtesy of Happy Days Dispensary

Towards that effort, Sand City Brewing Company, with locations in Northport and Lindenhurst, will be launching its new Happy Days IPA on 4/20, a terpene-influenced beer that Sand City owners Kevin Sihler and Bill Kiernan are introducing to pay homage to the Farmingdale dispensary and Long Island’s budding cannabis industry.

“Happy Days IPA is a collaboration fashioned by curiosity in parallel worlds. It’s a modern IPA brewed with Motueka and Mosaic hops, and Sour Diesel terpenes, which is a classic New York strain,” Sihler said. “You’ll find notes of pineapple, candied orange and resin in this beer.”

Grossman, who has featured Sand City beers in his restaurants, said the owners of the dispensary and the brewery are both passionate about their businesses. Though Happy Days won’t be selling the new IPA because it can’t legally sell alcohol, the IPA will be available wherever Sand City beers are sold.

“They’re great guys to work with,” he said. “They pride themselves in the products they produce.”

In addition to the Sand City collab, Happy Days marketing director Shelby Poole has planned the “Happiest Day Ever,” a series of free 4/20 events at the dispensary, beginning with a pizza and karaoke party on the eve of the “holiday” on Friday, April 19. On 4/20 morning, Happy Days will host a “wake-and-bake” event, a collaboration with the Long Island owners of Duck Donuts that features free coffee and donuts from 10 a.m. to noon.

From noon to 3 p.m., Happy Days will provide music and grilled cheese sandwiches and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., free mocktails will be offered as part of a collaboration with Long Island-based The Cocktail Cart and sponsored by ayrloom, a cannabis cultivator and manufacturer. At 4:20 p.m., Happy Days will host its first annual White Castle slider-eating contest. Throughout the day, the dispensary will have raffles, prizes and special product offerings.

As part of its continuing support for Long Island Cares, the owners of Happy Days continue to urge customers to bring non-perishable food items to drop in the donation bin in the dispensary lobby.

Lepore said the 4/20 events help represent the dispensary’s focus on its three pillars: community, education and destigmatization.

“As we seek to destigmatize cannabis, we know it’s imperative to both work closely within the community through partnerships like Sand City, and to provide cannabis education to our fellow Long Islanders in order to welcome the ‘cannacurious’ to Happy Days,” he said.

  • What Is Taking The DEA So Long To Rescheduling Marijuana

What Is Taking The DEA So Long To Rescheduling Marijuana

The Biden administration has been slow in fullfilling the last campaign promise of helping the cannabis industry….is the DEA waiting

In 2012 Colorado and Washington legalized recreational cannabis. Science, public opinion, how we consume, and support from groups as varied as HHS to Fox News watchers have already moved to supporting federal legalization. In the last election, the Biden administration committed to helping the industry.  A key factor is his support of veterans. Veterans, along with federal and medical research, has shown cannabis is a solid help to PTSD.  Also, as the country struggles with an opioid crisis, expert believe medical marijuana can be part of the solution.  But the administration and dragged it’s feet and now it seems another agency is lingering on change.  What is taking the DEA so long to reschedule marijuana. Experts weight in.

Related: California or New York, Which Has The Biggest Marijuana Mess

Terran Cooper, a leading cannabis expert at Falcon Rappaport & Berkman Law shares his thoughts. “While we have comparable examples of controlled substance rescheduling, the ramifications of cannabis rescheduling are beyond anything we’ve ever seen. There are a number of policy issues to be navigated by the DEA, including the existence international drug treaties, which may have delayed the DEA’s review (though Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove and others have argued that applicable treaties shouldn’t prevent rescheduling). The widespread consequences of potential cannabis rescheduling may have also muddied the water, as numerous parties have sought to influence the DEA’s review in various ways. “

“While it is possible that the DEA is attempting to navigate denying the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) recommendation for cannabis to rescheduled, many are skeptical of this likelihood. The HHS recommendation is binding on the DEA (21 USC 811(b)) as to scientific and medical matters, meaning in order to deny cannabis rescheduling the DEA would have to rely on other relevant data to outweigh HHS’ recommendation. This is a tall order, even for the historically cannabis-averse DEA.”

Jesse Redmond, Managing Director at Water Tower Research and a keen analyst for the industry has this take. ““It’s critical to realize the rescheduling process is occurring during an election year and it is possible democrats are coordinating efforts for maximum political impact. Many are pointing to the week of 4/20, which falls on a Saturday this year, for the DEA’s response to the HHS’ recommendation. This would give time for the public comment period and final rule before the elections in November.”

“There is no easy explanation of the delay. Some factors are the fact that the DEA and the FDA have different interests in cannabis regulation, the lack of clarity regarding how the DEA would regulate the rescheduled drug, how rescheduling and varied state cannabis laws would intersect, the loss of federal tax dollars when cannabis business expenses become deductible, and political considerations in a presidential election year.” said Lonnie Rosenwald from Zuber Lawler.

The industry is in need of support as consumer demand increase, but the cost of doing business is becoming prohibitive.  President Biden and Vice President Harris have been traditionally anti-marijuana, so you wonder if their lack of urgency or support is weighing in on the DEA’s slow walk of a decision.

It’s a sharp change in a short amount of time.

“I used to get shut down by every credit card processor, Venmo, and PayPal to begin with,” Salome said. “Now it’s a little bit different.”

CBD is now a $20 billion industry. Bloomberg estimates it could hit $60 billion by the end of the decade.

And yet, that doesn’t explain why 420 is, well, 420.

“I think mainly because of pop culture, especially now with the talk of legalization,” said a customer who fittingly identified himself as “Spicoli”.

Still, at this time, cannabis is illegal in Georgia.

“Illegal or regulated,” Salome corrected. “Regulated is a better way to say it.”

But with the state missing out on hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue for any number of public uses, Dills and Salome are betting it won’t be long until the industry…
