The shooting happened on Ellis Pond Drive.
ROCK HILL, S.C. — A person in South Carolina was shot and killed by a deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday morning, according to the sheriff.
It happened on Ellis Pond Drive, which is not far from downtown Rock Hill.
Deputies were responding to “a domestic violence incident,” when the shooting took place.
No deputies were hurt. The York County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the suspect died on Sunday afternoon. The suspect’s name has not been released at this time.
State authorities are investigating.
WCNC Charlotte’s crew on the scene saw several police cars still in the area around 7 a.m.
Last month, a York County deputy shot and killed a man who was barricaded in his car on Alexander Love Highway. York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said the deputy in that case was placed on paid administrative leave as part of protocol.
The shooting investigations come as four Republican candidates are racing to win the June primary and fill the sheriff’s role. One of those candidates is the current sheriff’s wife, Beth Tolson.
The current sheriff withdrew from the race in March to support his wife’s candidacy.
