The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is working to find a teen after he went missing from his home Monday. Peyton Pickard was last seen near his home in the area of C-575 and C-48 in Bushnell. Pickard was last seen in black boxers. Deputies said he is non-verbal and lives with autism. He is 16 years old, white, and 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. Deputies also said he has a burn scar on his right leg.“I feel he’s probably afraid. He doesn’t know how to get him to his dad. That’s all I got, and that’s all he’s got. Each other,” said Peyton’s dad, Jim Pickard. Jim Pickard said his son has been missing since 8:30 p.m. on Monday. “I was up all night. My neighbor lady walked around with me to his favorite spots. So far, we just haven’t had any luck,” he said.Tuesday, Sumter County deputies and Citrus County deputies worked together in their search. “We have aviation from our county and Citrus County. We have drones from our county and Citrus County. We have marine units patrolling the waterways, multiple deputies from both counties on foot,” said Pat Breeden, the Sumter County undersheriff.Breeden told WESH 2 they’ve made contact with Peyton before. “We have put tracking devices on him, but he has typically, in the past, torn them off,” Breeden explained. “He breaks them off and throws them in the woods.” Chopper 2 shows deputies searching the woods with dogs, and checking nearby rivers, and creeks. Breeden said this search comes with challenges. “The struggles are the terrain because it is a dense wooded area. There is a lot of water, swap land, and heavy vegetation.” SCSO’s social post has received hundreds of shares online as the community works to help in the search. All volunteers are working with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Volunteers gathered at the Wahoo Church in Bushnell to search for Pickard. Volunteers of all ages are working in shifts to help find him. Some are searching by foot going door to door, and others are traveling by car. Deputies say they are searching for the teen within a 10-mile radius of his home. Anyone with information about the teen is urged to contact deputies by calling 911 or 352-793-2621.
