Summertime has arrived and the living is supposed to be easy with fewer events and more vacations. While those big fall and spring galas have passed, they are being replaced on our calendars by annual recognition events, celebrations and fundraisers.
The Rotary Club of Coral Gables recently honored Allen Morris, as Martin Hughes Citizen of the Year during a luncheon on May 23 at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. Sharing the honors that day as Corporate Citizen of the Year was Jason Neal representing Waste Management.
Both Allen Morris and Waste Management are renowned for support of community events and for generosity across the board. In the absence of president Frank Sexton, Sally Baumgartner officiated over the meeting with Felix Pardo.
Kudos to both of this year’s honorees who are most deserving of the awards.
Speaking of Rotary, Gables Rotarians and members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) also were among a multitude of organizations giving away books, supplies and providing entertainment during the annual Literacy Fair at the Coral Gables Library on May 18.
Those same CGWC members hosted the club’s annual party for 41 fifth graders graduating from Tucker Elementary. This spirited class danced nonstop when not taking a break to enjoy a lunch of chicken fingers, mac and cheese, cupcakes, and more. Among the many volunteering that day included Rita and Saesha Tennyson, Ana Lam, Ruth Martinez, Robyn Hardeman, Jelibel Pena, Yaisy Gonzalez, Dr. Iris Torres and Maya Bell.
