CORNELIUS, N.C. — The jury trial of Madalina Cojocari’s stepfather, Christopher Palmiter, is scheduled to begin Monday, but sources tell WCCB that trial may be delayed.

Palmiter pleaded not guilty last month for failure to report the disappearance of a child to law enforcement. Madalina has not been seen publicly since November 21, 2022. That make 545 days since Madalina Cojocari was last seen exiting a school bus.

Many around Cornelius are holding out hope the young girl still out there safe and sound.

Cornelius resident Marvin Richardson feels there’s more to Cojocari’s story. He’s happy to hear Palmiter, will be facing a jury trial for failure to report Cojocari’s disappearance to authorities.

“Most parents in a matter of minutes, seconds. When their child is missing, they’re frantic. They’re looking for their kid, and they waited weeks before they reported it,” Richardson said.

It took Palmiter and the girl’s mother, Diana Cojocari 24 days to report their daughter missing. Diana is also scheduled to face a judge this week, and some hope this means answers will come to light.

“Everybody that’s involved with this case should be brought in to find out where she’s at, if she is still alive,” one community member who did not want to be identified said.

It’s clear many are following the case closely. Richardson said there is only one reason he is paying attention.

“Whether she’s found as a kid or a teenager or an adult, we would like to know,” Richardson said.
