St. Patrick’s Day Jello Shots

These Jello shots are an easy and fun way to incorporate the iconic green color and Ireland’s beloved Jameson Whiskey into your party menu.

Jameson Whiskey

I went with the classic Jameson Whiskey to use as the alcoholic base vs Bailey’s. A creamy shot is always delicious, but I find it takes away the tart and sweet flavor of the jello itself. The smooth flavor of the whiskey pays homage to Irish traditions without the strong kick of straight whiskey. It’s a refreshing shot of goodness!

bottle of Jameson whiskey, box of jello and cup of water.

Ingredients

To make these festive green jello shots, you’ll need:

  • Green jello (lime and green apple are great options)
  • Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • Water (hot water and cold water)

As written, this St. Patrick’s Day Jello Shots recipe calls for 4 oz of whiskey per 3.2 oz. box. You can replace up to 2 oz of the whiskey with cold water to bring down the alcohol content, if desired.

How to Make

Here’s a quick overview to making whisky jello shots. Each 3.2 oz box of Jello makes between 14-16 shots when the cup is filled 3/4 of the way.

1. Add the green jello powder and boiling water to a large mixing bowl and stir until the gelatin is fully dissolved.

2. Mix in the cold water and Jameson Whiskey.

3. Pour the green jello mixture into 2 oz. plastic shot glasses.

4. Refrigerate for 2-4 hours.

5. Add optional garnishes.

Garnish Tips – for a festive touch, add a dollop of whipped cream and either green sprinkles or gold sprinkles to the top. The creamy flavor of the whipped topping really pops with the flavor of the whiskey.

Darcey’s Expert Tips

As a jello shot expert, I have some tips to keep in mind when making:

  • Cool Before Adding Alcohol- Ensure the jello mixture is not too hot when adding the whiskey to preserve the alcohol content.
  • Place empty cups on a cookie sheet for ease of clean up and refrigeration.
  • Use a large glass measuring cup with a pour spout for a clean liquid-to-cup transfer.
  • Plan for a 2 hours minimum refrigeration period.
  • Keep the shots refrigerated until ready to serve to keep the firm texture.
  • If there are ‘non drinkers’ at the party to consider, you can absolutely make a batch without the booze. Just add extra water or another liquid, like 7-up, etc.

Prepping and Storage

These can be made up to 2 days in advance of serving. Just make sure to place the top on the shots as to ensure a gross film won’t coat the top and change the texture and flavor. You’re welcome.

Remember to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day Jello Shots responsibly!
