30-year-old Nicorie Adams of Springfield was killed in the shooting on January 31.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Westfield man was arrested in Myrtle Beach Thursday and will be charged with a deadly shooting on Rochelle Street back in January.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, 36-year-old Jermaine Atkins of Westfield is alleged to have murdered 30-year-old Nicorie Adams of Springfield.

Around 4:20 p.m. on January 31, officers were called to a ShotSpotter activation on Rochelle Street and then on Braddock Street. Police found evidence of an incident at both locations.

Shortly after, two gunshot victims, Adams and a woman, arrived at Baystate Medical Center. Adams later died from his injuries. Police believe the two victims were shot on Rochelle Street and later crashed on Braddock Street.

While investigating the incident, police determined the alleged suspect to be Atkins. An arrest warrant was issued on February 16, but Atkins wasn’t arrested until Thursday when police discovered he was in the Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina.

Atkins was arrested by Myrtle Beach police for the charge of Fugitive from Justice Court Warrant and will be returned to Springfield to face murder charges.
