SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – It was a hero’s welcome for the newest King inside Golden 1 Center on Saturday night, as DeMar DeRozan made his way to his courtside seat alongside team owner Vivek Ranadive ahead of Sacramento’s first summer contest in the California Classic.
The loud ovation featured a long standing ovation for the 34-year-old, coupled with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” anthem playing throughout the arena – a song in which DeRozan is not only name checked, but the six-time NBA All-Star also appears in the music video.
Following the game, a Kings 51-point rout of the Chinese National Team, long after DeRozan and the crowd had exited Golden 1 Center, the team made their second move of the day.
The Kings reached an agreement with 28-year-old point guard Jordan McLaughlin late Saturday night on a one-year deal to make him Sacramento’s 13th roster spot, sources told FOX40.
Those sources spoke to FOX40 on the condition of anonymity because the deal was not yet official.
McLaughlin leaves the Minnesota Timberwolves where he spent all five of his NBA seasons.
Like DeRozan, McLaughlin played at USC, but he went undrafted in 2018 before he signed a two-way contract with the team one-year later, splitting time between the NBA and G League. In 2021, he would sign a multiyear deal with the Wolves providing a spark off the bench.
McLaughlin stands 6’0″ and spent last season backing up Mike Conley in Minnesota. He appeared in 56 games averaging 3.5 points and two assists per contest. He improved his perimeter shooting from the previous season’s 31% to 47% in 2023-2024.
