(Source of the Day) What is the Bias and Factual Rating for OHCHR?
[ad_1]
Geneva, Switzerland – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has received a Left-Center bias and high factual reporting rating from Media Bias Fact Check (MBFC). Founded in 1993, OHCHR promotes global human rights from its Geneva headquarters, advocating for international standards with rigorous, data-driven reports.
MBFC commended OHCHR’s impartiality, highlighting its comprehensive research on issues like climate change impacts and the protection of vulnerable communities. A notable example includes the “Human Rights Council 56th Regular Session” report. Additionally, a May 2024 press release urged Israel to investigate allegations of torture against Palestinian detainees, showcasing OHCHR’s balanced approach.
Despite its credibility, OHCHR faces criticism regarding political influences and effectiveness. Former New York Director Craig Mokhiber criticized its handling of human rights violations in Palestine, and its training of Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has drawn scrutiny. Nonetheless, OHCHR remains a reliable source for human rights information, with a focus on social justice, equity, and gender equality aligning with left-leaning perspectives.
