According to the World Bank, Haitian Diaspora’s remittances to Haiti reached US$ 3.1 billion in 2022 while Haiti’s national budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 is US$ 1.9 billion. Its daily practice of democratic principles can significantly contribute to Haiti’s nascent democracy. Yet, the Haitian Diaspora has always been excluded from the Haitian political landscape by all the country’s governments. Past and present. By all accounts, the active participation of Haitians living abroad in Haiti’s political life is indispensable to the sustainable development of Haiti.

This exclusionary practice -detrimental to Haiti and Haitians- is being apparently observed today by political stakeholders in the ongoing negotiations leading to the formation of a new Haut Conseil de Transition (HCT) as well as the new Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
