Skittles Jello Shots Recipe
These Skittles Jello Shots are a playful, boozy treat and will bring a burst of color and flavor to your event. Whether it’s a birthday, BBQ, or game night, Jello Shot Recipes are always the star of the show.
This Skittles Jello Shots recipe require only 2 ingredients (plus water) – rum (or vodka) and Skittles-flavored jello. Make these alongside Starburst Jello Shots for two flavors of fun.
For this version, I do not infuse the booze with skittles candies because the Jello provides the Skittles flavor. If you want to, have at it. Just throw a handful of skittles candy in the booze and let infuse for 2-3 days.
Ingredients
Making Skittles Jello Shots is super easy, and you only need a few ingredients to get started:
- Skittles Flavored Jello
- Rum or Vodka – I like pineapple rum, but plain rum or vodka also work well. Whipped Cream vodka would also be amazing here.
- Water – Boiling water and cold water
- Garnish – Skittles candies and whipped cream
The box of jello contains 3.89 oz of gelatin, enough to make 16-18 shots, when each 2 oz. cup is filled 3/4 of the way. For more shots per box, use 1 oz. cups.
How to Make Jello Shots With Skittles
Here’s how to make these colorful, fruity jello shots.
- Whisk together the gelatin and boiling water until the jello has dissolved.
- Mix in the rum and cold water.
- Pour into 2 oz. plastic shot glasses and transfer to the fridge for 2-4 hours.
- Top with whipped cream and skittles candy. Serve and enjoy.
Variations
You can switch things up by trying different types of candy or adding other flavors to your jello shots. Here are a few fun variations:
- Sour Skittles Jello Shots: Use sour Jello flavors like green apple or sour cherry to mimic the tang of Sour Skittles.
- Tropical Skittles Jello Shots: Swap in tropical flavors like pineapple, mango, or coconut for a tropical twist. This would work well if using pineapple rum.
- More Candy Garnishes: Get creative with other candy garnishes like gummy bears or sour worms.
Darcey’s Expert Tips
- Replace all the booze with cranberry juice, or pineapple juice to make a non-alcohol Jell-O shot. It will change the flavor, but it will be booze-free!
- Make the jello mixture in a large measuring cup with a pour spout. It makes it easier to pour and avoid spills.
- Place the plastic cups on a cookie sheet before filling. It makes cleaning up any spills and transferring in and out of the refrigerator easier.
- Keep the shots refrigerated until ready to serve to keep the firm texture. Garnish right before you’re ready to serve.
