Significant police presence in Belle Plaine, public advised to avoid area

BELLE PLAINE, Minn. — There is a heavy police presence in Belle Plaine Thursday morning. 

According to police, an investigation is underway near Meridian and Prairie streets south. There is no threat to the public at this time, police say, but the public is advised to avoid the area during the active investigation.   

Details are limited, but police say they will release more information. A picture shared with WCCO shows a law enforcement vehicle near a helicopter. 

Belle Plaine is located about 44 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
