SF Democratic Party endorses London Breed for mayor

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Democratic Party endorsed acting Mayor London Breed to be reelected, it announced Wednesday.

Since San Francisco uses ranked-choice voting, the party could have chosen to endorse other candidates for second place, but it decided to give Breed its sole endorsement. She received 21 of a possible 32 votes.

“I’m honored and proud to receive the sole endorsement of the San Francisco Democratic Party,” Breed said. “As someone who has registered voters, traveled to battleground states, and done the hard work to build our party up locally over the years, I know the value of this endorsement and what it means. With our democratic values under attack all over the country and with so much at stake in this election, I’m proud to stand with and be supported by our local Democratic Party.”

With the endorsement, Breed will be featured as the party’s choice in ads, fliers and the Department of Elections ballot book.

Breed is going up against candidates including philanthropist Daniel Lurie, former mayor Mark Farrell, supervisor Ahsha Safai and supervisor Aaron Peskin. The candidates have already taken the stage for a handful of debates.

Breed has been the city’s mayor since July 2018 and is aiming for reelection. She was previously president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
