If any celebrity makeup artist is recommending a beauty product, we’re most definitely going to be all ears — especially if it’s Selena Gomez’s. Recently, Makeup artist Melissa Murduck took to TikTok to try a recommended product that was making waves for being a cheaper alternative to regular brush cleaner: the $5 Zote Soap

She decided to try the product out for herself and loved the results, as you can see above. She warns that most soaps are not conditioning enough and too dehydrating for real or synthetic brushes, but her experience with Zote Soap
was immediately gratifying, as the product almost immediately removed most of the her brushes’ makeup residue.

The soap conditioned her brushes and kept a soft feel to them, ensuring that they were protected. Tallow, an animal-based fat, is the reason for this conditioning effect that allowed her kit to stay in perfect condition.

Amazon

Although the product is not marketed as a makeup brush cleaner, shoppers on Amazon cannot get enough of the Zote Soap
, racking up over 2,500 five-star ratings. One user wrote, “I bought this to use to clean my make up brushes because of the ingredients, it conditions bristles and works perfectly. It also really cleans sponges very well and removes all the stains.”

“I’ve been using this for about 3 years now, mostly for my beauty blender/sponges,” shared another. “It removes ALL products from any sponge I’ve used it on (which is a lot of diff brands as I’m not too picky) including cream blushes which are common to stain sponges…I [also] use it on some of my harder to clean makeup brushes, mainly foundation and powder ones that get caked up in product.”

Head over to Amazon right now to try out Zote Soap
for yourself, and if you want to try out some of our favorite products from Rare Beauty alongside the viral product, we’ve compiled a short list below.
