Seattle Police arrested a 13-year-old following his suspected involvement in an attempted carjacking in West Seattle two weeks ago.
On August 30th at 11:06 A.M., patrol officers responded to reports of an in-progress carjacking by multiple juvenile suspects in the 4300 block of Holgate Street.
Police arrived and located one of the suspects that was unintentionally left behind by his accomplices. Officers also detained a male bystander that was armed with a gun.
Officers determined that the vehicle owner found four or five suspects inside of her vehicle and were attempting to steal it.
Bystanders and witnesses confronted the suspects who exited the vehicle, leaving a cell phone behind.
The suspects later returned for the phone and charged at one of the involved individuals. A bystander then fired one or two shots at the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
The suspects fled the scene leaving one juvenile behind. Officers arrested the child for attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
Police arrested the bystander for Aiming or Discharging a Firearm and he was released from custody at the scene pending further investigation.
The firearm used was recovered as evidence; two shell casings were also recovered. Officers failed to locate any other suspects.
Detectives with the General Investigations Unit have been assigned the case.
