Sacramento records hottest October day in history
[ad_1]
It’s October and it’s fall, but the Sacramento area’s high temperatures on Thursday shattered several decades-old records for the date and for October.
According to the National Weather Service, a weather sensor by Sacramento State recorded a high of 103°F, beating the old record of 99°F at the same sensor in 1991.
Not only that, but the temperature reached is also now the hottest October day on record in the city, according to records that go back more than a century to 1887.
In Stockton and Modesto, respective temperatures of 105°F and 104°F on Thursday matched the all-time high recorded in October, which was only established just one day prior.
Before this week, the hottest October day for both cities was set in 1980.
Another sensor at the Sacramento Executive Airport also achieved a historic first-ever recording of a heat wave in the month of October, which is designated when there are three consecutive days of temperatures above 100°F.
Relief from the heat could also be several days away. A heat advisory has been extended yet again in the Sacramento area, the Delta region and the foothills, this time until 11 p.m. Friday.
The West Coast will continue to stay hot for several days, with temperatures in the 90s until a potential drop into the 80s by the end of next week.
