RTL Today – High Seas: 82-year-old seaman sails into trouble with marijuana trade – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

In an unexpected turn of events, an 82-year-old retired seaman has received a final warning from a court in Lower Saxony after being found guilty of dealing drugs.

Despite having 24 previous convictions, the gentleman decided to supplement his modest 800-euro monthly pension by selling marijuana, reports AP News.

On Monday, the court in the northern German town of Aurich issued him a suspended sentence. Prosecutors, considering his extensive criminal record and an existing suspended sentence, had recommended a 34-month prison term.

The approach contrasts with that of Luxembourg, where legislators are working on the legalisation of cannabis.

However, the judges, taking into account the man’s unique circumstances and recent health issues, decided to categorise the latest crimes as “less serious offenses”.

The presiding judge informed the defendant that this was his final warning.
