It comes via Adafruit, and the MX Midi Guitar features a MIDI controller, Cherry MX switches, an accelerometer, a rotary selector for changing octaves and a whammy bar. And there’s also a strumming mode for playing chords, and the two potentiometers let you adjust velocity and modulation and generally turn things up to 11 (!)…. Excellent.

Note that its 3D printed and you can get your CAD STL files (from Fusion 360, Thingiverse, PrusaPrinters, or Cults3D) on the Adafruit project page – on learn.adafruit.com – where you can also find the build instructions and wiring diagrams.

The code for the Guitar Hero project was written in Adafruit Circuit Python, using the USB MIDI library, and is available for download.


A final, visual, effect is due to the way the guitar head houses a strip of NeoPixels diffused by a piece of black acrylic, with the LEDs illuminating the panel nicely.
