ROCK HILL, S.C. – A Rock Hill woman is dead and her girlfriend was charged with murder following an altercation with a co-worker who shot and killed her in self-defense, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.
It happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday at Riverwalk Parkway near Cel-River Road.
The shooting stems from an altercation between 39-year-old Samarian Lindsay and her co-worker, according to police. Lindsay got into her girlfriend’s car while the male co-worker got in his car and started driving away.
Brittney Reed, 32, allegedly drove in front of the man’s vehicle to block him while he was stuck in traffic. Police said Reed knew blocking his car would likely lead to a felony act that could result in somebody’s death.
Lindsay approached the man’s vehicle from the passenger side and presented a firearm. Police said the man grabbed his own firearm and fired it at Lindsay, hitting her multiple times in the chest.
Reed then assaulted the man by punched him in the face, police said.
Lindsay was transported to Piedmont Medical Center where she later died.
Based on the investigation, police said they are not charging the man, as the shooting was deemed self-defense.
Police said Reed provided the gun to Lindsay after being asked to do so. Reed knew the gun would be used to confront the male co-worker, according to police.
Reed has since been charged with murder and assault and battery.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene.
Autopsy and toxicology reports are pending. The shooting is still under investigation.
