The regular council meeting on Monday, Feb. 5 included changes to rules for truck parking and authorization for contracts involving upcoming road projects.
Council authorized City Manager Gina Nash to execute a professional services contract for the design of Sachse Road phase two reconstruction improvements in the amount of $1.5 million with funds from the 2021 Bond.
Nash was also authorized to negotiate and enter into an annual concrete contract for an amount of up to $1.6 million with funding from the 2021 Bond.
Council followed up on a lengthy discussion led by Police Chief Bryan Sylvester in November about possible changes to the city ordinance governing on-street parking. The ordinance made it unlawful to leave a truck-tractor, road tractor, bus, box truck or trailer that weighs over a ton on a public street or highway. It did not, however, designate smaller trailers that weigh less than a ton or motorized recreational vehicles, which residents are increasingly complaining about.
Council approved amendments that now include trailers and RVs, but a 24-hour clause allows for loading and unloading. Residents may also request a variance for up to seven days.
