Tennessee landed a commitment from another top-tier, in-state target on Friday in Lipscomb Academy (Tenn.) four-star linebacker Edwin Spillman.

The 6-foot-2, 217-prospect chose the Volunteers over his other finalist, Ohio State.

Spillman had over 30 offers on his resume from the likes of Florida State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, Notre Dame, and more.

While Ohio State made a strong push during his wave of June officials, Tennessee had been the perceived favorite for a long time.

Spillman’s younger brother, Nate Spillman, is currently a freshman wide receiver for the Volunteers. So, family ties to the in-state program definitely played a key factor in his decision.

During his junior season, Spillman registered 129 tackles and two interceptions and served as a catalyst on a Lipscomb Academy team that finished 13-0, won their second consecutive DII-AA state championship, and was ranked in the Top 25 nationally by most publications.

Spillman becomes the latest impressive in-state addition for the Volunteers, joining the likes of Rivals250 athlete Boo Carter, offensive lineman Jesse Perry, and defensive backs Kaleb Beasley and Marcus Goree, Jr.

The Volunteers also landed five-star athlete Mike Matthews on Wednesday.
