APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — Two years after an Apex husband was murdered on the North Carolina coast, the reward for his killers has been increased by $20,000 and police have a definitive car make and model in the crime.
Randy Joseph Miller was killed just outside his Atlantic Beach home early the morning of August 29, 2022.
Miller, 65, was at a home on West Atlantic Avenue for a fishing trip. Miller was in the driveway loading up a fishing boat around 5:45 a.m. Monday.
He was fatally stabbed in the crime that has stumped investigators.
On Friday, Atlantic Beach police issued a news release on the “sad occasion” just after the second anniversary of the murder of Randy Miller.
In the past, police said they thought an Infiniti sedan was possibly involved. But now they say the suspects were likely in a silver 2013-2017 Volkswagen CC, which is similar to a Passat but has a lower roofline.

Police have also said that car break-in suspects were very possibly involved. A photo released by Atlantic Beach police showed a suspect caught on video trying to break into a Jeep under a beach house the same morning as the killing.
“Three individuals were observed breaking into vehicles shortly before the murder,” Atlantic Beach police said.
The information from police on Friday also said the reward in the case was up to $75,000. The reward started at $30,000 but increased last year to $55,000.

Officials said anyone with information should contact the Atlantic Beach Police Department or the State Bureau of Investigation at 919-300-6860 with anonymous tips. People with information can also call Crime Stoppers at (252)-726-4636 to remain anonymous.
