Love actually is all around in Charlotte

In advance of Valentine’s Day, we prompted readers:

“Did you and your sweetheart meet in Charlotte? Tell us where/how.”

We thought the answers might provide an informed map of where to look for love; offer some nostalgia for Charlotte establishments of the past; or maybe inspire a sense of hope in those looking for love. Turns out, your responses did all three.

Here is a sampling:

“We met in the men’s bathroom @petrasbarone night. The women’s line was too long and I couldn’t wait any longer. No one was in the men’s so I turned to the group of people next to me and let them know what I was about to do so if any men did try to come in, I would be out soon. They said okay. So I went into the bathroom, locked the door, chose to use the stall instead of the urinal (duh), andddddd he was in the stall. Peeing. Andddd I reached out and tapped him on the shoulder (immediate regret lol) and then fumbled my way back to the women’s line (but not before he came out and found me with a huge smile). Been together ever since.” ❤️

“Freedom Park. Married with 2 kids now.” ❤️

“We met coaching volleyball at a CLT HS – just so happened to share the gym at the same time. She taught me nearly everything about a sport I knew little about. She took me on our first date to a @hornets game in 2016 but pretends she didn’t know it was a date.” ❤️

“Married a Charlotte native who took me to Lang Van on our first blind date. Feb 6, 2000. So that’s the date we celebrate the spirit of Valentine’s Day.”❤️

“I met my husband at O’Neils in uptown Charlotte at a Belly Up To The Bar happy hour. We have been married for 37 years!!” ❤️

“New Year’s Eve at Amos’ 22 years ago! Band was Jupiter Coyote.” ❤️

“Bennys Pizza on a not-so-special Monday night! The date went so well we went to solstice and jack beagles because we didn’t want it to end. Married 3 years now with a baby on the way and we still go to Bennys every year to celebrate.” ❤️

“2009 Rich And Bennett’s St Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl! ….. at Suite to be exact!” ❤️

“Meet at Amos’ Southend on St. Patrick’s Day 2001 seeing The Breakfast Club – been together ever since. This fall we will be married for 20 years.” ❤️

“At a habitat for humanity build in 1994. 27 years and 3 kids later.” ❤️

“We met in 2021 through mutual friends at the OG Sycamore (not a setup) and my jaw immediately dropped when he walked over and sat at our table. We both lived in South End and found out our balconies faced each other across the rail trail…hello Romeo and Juliet. I’d randomly throw some signals and a few months later he asked me out. Fast forward a few years and we just got married in December.” ❤️

“First date was at Open Kitchen! My husbands parents also had their first date there!” ❤️

“We met in 7th grade at Providence Day and “went out” for over a year. I switched schools in high school and we went our separate ways. Met again at Seaboard in Matthews – Dec 2016. We got married during the pandemic in Oct 2020.” ❤️

“We met online and our first date was at P Stone (used to be on corner of 7th and Caswell). Both of us from Charlotte and grew up not far from each other. Turns out he knew my brother and met my parents forty years ago. Been together 12 years now and engaged. It’s never too late to find your true love.” ❤️

“My summer job as a bank teller at (then) NationsBank in Myers Park while I was home from college. We chatted, I had my name plate up, he looked me up in the phone book and called me that night. This will be 30 years of marriage.” ❤️
