“Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.” – Alice Morse Earle.

We all face moments of anxiety and overthinking and it’s easy to get lost in our worries and feel overwhelmed. However, if we take a step back and look closely, there is always something positive to find, even on the toughest days. This mindset can make a big difference in how we handle our struggles and work towards a better future.

Rahaman is a 21-year-old supervisor at More Retail from Assam. He grew up in a middle-class family with a pretty normal childhood. Rahaman has a close bond with his parents and siblings and has a loving and supportive family. This foundation of love and support played a big role in shaping Rahaman’s outlook on life.

“As I grew older, my hobbies changed, but my love for TV programs and movies remained constant. These hobbies gave me a sense of relaxation and an escape from daily stress.”

He first heard about YourDOST at his workplace, which has a partnership with the organization as its official mental health partner. Here he met his counsellor and took up counselling to see how it functions.

Rahaman remembers his first impression of his counsellor as very positive. She talked nicely and made him feel comfortable during their sessions. Although he was initially nervous and confused, he gradually started opening up to her.

“I came to counselling to share my concerns as openly as I would with a friend as I wanted to be as honest as possible. I felt anxious during work hours and had looping thoughts throughout the day. I used to overthink every little thing which became extremely exhausting and I wanted to get better.”

When Rahaman signed up for counselling with YourDOST, he didn’t know what to expect but his therapist’s kind approach made all the difference. More than anything, it was the way she talked to him and listened to his rants that helped the most. She became his confidant and his go-to person for every little problem he faced.

“Journaling helped me express my thoughts freely and untangle the mess in my mind. The breathing exercises calmed me down during moments of intense anxiety. These activities, along with my therapist’s support, led to positive changes in my life.”

Gradually, Rahaman’s overthinking and tiring thoughts began to clear up. He started feeling lighter and noticed a significant improvement in his overall well-being. The constant loop of negative thoughts began to fade and he experienced clarity and peace once again.

“I’m deeply grateful for my therapist as she has been my rock through thick and thin, and I look forward to more sessions with her.”

In terms of feeling better, Rahaman rates himself a 4 out of 5. He acknowledges that there is still room for improvement and understands that mental well-being is a slow but steady journey.

We at YourDOST are confident that Rahaman is just moments away from reaching his goals, and we wish him luck in all his future endeavours!
