Racing City Chorus delivering singing Valentines

CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Valentine’s Day is all about telling the people in your life how much you love them. A group of local singers is spreading that message all over the Capital Region on February 14th.

In the age of sending text messages, heart emojis, and sharing pictures of your sweetie on social media, the Racing City Chorus of Saratoga Springs stands out with their Valentine’s Day greetings. The tuxedo clad barbershop quartets will be showing up at the home or workplace of the sender’s request today– singing old fashioned love songs, such as “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”

The group stopped by the Posie Peddler in Saratoga on Tuesday for an early Valentine’s Day gram to thank them, as the shop has supported the group’s singing Valentines program with beautiful flowers for many years.

The Racing City Chorus was founded in Saratoga in 1956, and this is their first year back delivering singing Valentines since 2020.

The singing Valentines program is a fundraiser for the group, to support their mission of preserving the barbershop quartet style of singing in their local community.

We’re about 36 active members strong. We’re always looking for new members,” said Brian Aviles, a member of the group.

There are three quartets traveling around the Capital Region area Wednesday, and they might be able to squeeze in one or two more messages depending on location and time. If you’re interested in sending a song to your sweetie, the number to call is 518-504-SING (7464).
