The LimX Dynamics W1 is a quadruped robot that typically rolls around on its four individually powered wheels. But now its developers have gifted the robot with a bipedal mode, which allows W1 to stand up and use just two wheels. This results in a much smaller operating footprint for maneuvering in tight spaces. Me? I can’t even maneuver in wide-open spaces without finding something to stumble into and break.

While standing, W1 measures 5 feet tall and can roll on just two wheels or lock those wheels and use them as feet, stepping over obstacles, or climbing/descending stairs. It can also spin 360 degrees on its axis and make 90-degree turns around objects. Luckily, I don’t think it can swim yet, so I hope I’ll be safe from these robots on an island. It reminds me of those terrifying Wheelers from Return To Oz.

In the future, will all our errands be run by robots like W1? One can only hope. As much as I’m weary of robots, I’m even more weary of doing chores. Robots, do my bidding! And try to keep it down while you’re at it; I hear a nap calling.
