On Feb. 2, First Lady Jill Biden gave a speech at a White House event that relaunched the “cancer moonshot” President Joe Biden led when he was vice president.

“Certain words have the power to make time stop,” Jill Biden said in a video circulating on social media. Then, a child can be heard yelling “shut the f— up.”

A post sharing the video was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

This video is altered.

In the original footage, no one yells at Biden. She goes on to name the words that have the power to make time stop: “Malignant. Aggressive. Terminal. Cancer.”

The audio of the child yelling previously was used in another altered video featuring Jill Biden as she read to a second grade class in Maryland. But that outburst didn’t happen, either.

As Reuters has reported, the audio of the child screaming an expletive comes from another video that has been online for at least a few years, before the Biden administration. The title of that video, posted on YouTube in 2019, says: “Kid tells teacher to shut up.” Other people can be seen reacting to the outburst, both laughing and chastising the child.

We rate claims that this is an authentic video in which a child yells at Jill Biden to “shut up” during her speech Pants on Fire!
