Former President Donald Trump has been charged 37 times in a federal indictment by a grand jury over his handling of classified documents, court documents unsealed June 9 show.
Former President Donald Trump has been charged 37 times in a federal indictment by a grand jury over his handling of classified documents, court documents unsealed June 9 show.
The charges against Trump include:
31 counts of willful retention of national defense information
one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice
one count of withholding a document or record
one count of corruptly concealing a document or record
one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation
one count of scheme to conceal
and one count of false statements and representations.
Trump announced June 8 on Truth Social that he had been indicted. This is the first time a former U.S. president has faced federal charges and his second indictment this year. Trump is running for president in 2024.
Walt Nauta, an aide to the former president, was also charged six times in the indictment.
