Ex-kickboxer and online influencer Andrew Tate was arrested Dec. 29 in Romania as part of an investigation into human trafficking and rape allegations and has remained in custody ever since.

But he hasn’t been convicted or sentenced, as a recent Facebook post claims.

“Andrew Tate officially gets sentenced to 15 years in prison! (Found guilty),” the Jan. 20 post says.

It was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook.)

Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist who was detained alongside his brother Tristan, has denied the allegations, saying the case against him is “empty.”

Police haven’t charged the brothers, much less have they been convicted and sentenced.

The most recent turn of the screw: a judge extended their custody until Feb. 27, according to the BBC.

We rate claims that Tate was convicted and sentenced False.
