Pleasant Tuesday Before Steamy 4th Of July Forecast – WCCB Charlotte’s CW

[ad_1]

AM Headlines:

  • Sunny, but staying dry
  • Hot and Humid by the 4th
  • Scattered Storms Return for the Holiday Weekend
  • Hurricane Beryl = Category 5

Discussion:

High pressure will keep the forecast sunny and dry today. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s — slightly below the average high for Charlotte this time of year of 90. Humidity will begin to climb tomorrow with temps inching their way back into the low 90s. Expect dew points to get back into the low 70s by the 4th of July. This indicates a lot more moisture in the air as a subtropical ridge builds in, pumping in tropical moisture. Temps will rise to the mid 90s. Rain and storm chances will remain isolated. Heat and humidity will continue to climb through the weekend making it feel like the triple digits with scattered afternoon rain and storm chances.

Hurricane Beryl

Beryl is a category 5 – catastrophic hurricane. This is the earliest category 5 hurricane on record. Just 1 other storm made it to a category 5 in July – Emily on July 16, 2005 for 6 hours.   It made landfall over Carriacou Island in the Grenadines yesterday as a major Category 4 hurricane. The storm is moving WNW at 22 mph and will pass near Jamaica late Wednesday where it will likely remain a major hurricane. The storm will move into a higher shear environment as it moves into the southwestern Caribbean toward the Yucatan Peninsula late in the week. It will move into the Gulf as a tropical storm Friday evening.
