SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Starting Tuesday, parking will no longer be free at Santana Row.
Signs plastered around the shopping center’s lot show visitors that they will have to pay for parking if they stay at Santana Row for more than two hours.
A Santana Row employee confirmed that the new rates go into effect on Tuesday. Parking bars are currently being installed in the lot.
X to shut down SF office in ‘next few weeks,’ according to report
After two free hours of parking, visitors will be charged $2 per hour that their car is parked at Santana Row, the employee said. The maximum amount that a driver will be charged is $10.
Parking had long been free at Santana Row, a feature that customers said made the area attractive to visit.
Even Santana Row employees will have to pay for parking. A man named Luis Vargas who works at the mall says he was offered a parking pass for $20 per month.
“It’s not bad, yeah. But it’s still more money, more money for bills and parking now,” he said.
Santana Row is located on the west side of San Jose. It hosts bars, restaurants and retail stores that include Lululemon, Tesla and Nike.
Valley Fair Mall, which is located next to Santana Row, also charges for parking, according to its website. Its rates are the same as the updated rates at Santana Row.
KRON4 reached out to Santana Row for an official statement and is awaiting a response.
