Poker legend Erik Seidel had a brutal exit from his latest 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) event, losing to a one-outer on the river deep in the tournament.

The hand, which should qualify as the WSOP Hand of the Day, took place on Thursday in Event #16: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold’em with 21 players remaining out of the original 823. And it was captured during the PokerGO livestream and by PokerNews live reporter Herbie Teope.

Rough Way for Seidel to Go

Day 3 began with 41 players, well into the money. Seidel entered the session as the second shortest stack, in desperation to chip up to make another deep run at the World Series of Poker.

The 10-time bracelet winner did some chipping up on Day 3, and increased his stack significantly, but never made his way to the top of the leaderboard. But he was one card away from getting close to that point when he ran into a horrendous bad beat.

The hand in question was picked up by Teope on the turn with the board showing Q102J. Seidel checked to his opponent, former Hustler Casino Live dealer Sami Bechahed, who bet, and then Seidel check-raised before Bechahed put the poker legend all in.

Bechahed, the bigger stack, turned over 97 for a flush, only to find out he needed to hit a one-outer for a straight flush to bust the Poker Hall of Famer as Seidel showed Q4. The river was the 8 to complete the straight flush, and send Seidel to the exits in a cruel fashion.

Had he won the hand, Seidel would have been up to around 40 big blinds. Instead, he was out in 21st place for $26,007, his 148th cash in a bracelet event.

Seidel won his 10th bracelet last December at WSOP Paradise, tying Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, and Johnny Chan for second place all-time behind Phil Hellmuth’s 17. He’ll have to wait another day to inch closer to the “Poker Brat” after suffering one of the worst bad beats thus far at the 2024 WSOP.
