BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – This Week in Louisiana Politics, Louisiana’s Office of Motor Vehicles was the victim of a cyber attack.
Anyone with a state-issued ID or car registration likely had their information exposed. That includes their name, address, social security number and more. The state said other agencies across the country have also been hacked. GOHSEP suggests monitoring your credit, changing all your passwords, requesting an identity protection pin from the IRS, checking your social security benefits and reporting any suspected fraud.
In the last-minute budget deal that was passed in the legislative session, it was found that money for some projects was stripped. That included millions for the Jimmie Davis Bridge in Shreveport. Lawmakers in the area assured people that the project is still set to move forward.
In his first set of vetoes, Gov. John Bel Edwards shared out what some see as punishments by striking out local projects from the budget. Those projects were mainly focused on the districts of some members who voted against the budget in the last moments of the session. There were nine in total. Some of the projects taken out include money for sidewalks, new pavilions and other infrastructure improvements. They spanned from Haughton to Oil City, to Abbeville.
