(KRON) — The Oakland Police Department has revised the number of victims in a mass shooting that took place on Juneteenth near Lake Merritt down from 15 to 14. OPD said a preliminary investigation indicated that 15 people had been shot.
However, further investigation revealed that on the same evening as the shooting on Grand Avenue, there was another shooting nearby in the area of 10th Avenue and East 24th Street. The second shooting occurred less than a half hour later.
Investigators, police said, learned that the second shooting was a double shooting. One of the victims in that shooting was privately transported to a local hospital. That individual was initially counted as the 15th victim in the Lake Merritt Juneteenth shooting.
Both individuals shot in the second shooting are expected to survive, police said. Two people have been arrested in connection with the second shooting.
The Juneteenth shooting at Lake Merritt occurred just after 8:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Grand Avenue. That incident began when an illegal sideshow broke out, followed by a fight. As the crowd headed toward the altercation, multiple shots were fired.
There were no fatalities in connection to that shooting either.
According to Alameda County District Attorney, Pamela Price, no one has been charged in connection to the Juneteenth shooting. DA Price said she has been reviewing some evidence while awaiting additional evidence. She has asked the public to contact police with additional information regarding the shooting.
OPD said the investigations into the shootings remain ongoing.
