NEWBURYPORT — Newburyport Recreation, in collaboration with The Screening Room theater, recently announced a unique series of movie nights designed for lovers of classic romantic comedies and crafting.
Introducing Classic Rom-coms & Crafting, an event where the lights are kept up just enough to allow attendees to enjoy knitting, crocheting and other craft projects while watching beloved romantic comedies on the big screen. The series kicks off with the magical fan-favorite “Practical Magic” on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
This collaboration is being billed as perfect for community members who want to enjoy the charm of classic films while keeping their hands busy with their latest crafting projects. Whether one is a seasoned knitter, crocheter or just looking for a relaxing way to spend the evening, this event welcomes all skill levels.
The Classic Rom-coms & Crafting series will continue throughout the winter, featuring a hand-picked selection of romantic comedies that pair perfectly with crafting hobbies. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own supplies. Unlike traditional cinema experiences, the lights will be gently dimmed.
“Practical Magic” (1998) stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as two witch sisters, Sally and Gillian Owens, who must use their magic to fight a curse that threatens their lives.
Other films in the series include: “When Harry Met Sally,” Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.; “Love Actually,” Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.; and “Notting Hill,” Jan. 26, at 7 p.m.
Cost: $12, general admission; $10, seniors and children. Tickets available online at newburyportmovies.com and at the door. The Screening Room is at 82 State St., Newburyport.
