NC 16-year-old charged with first-degree murder after 2 shot at apartment complex

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A 16-year-old is in police custody this weekend after a man was shot and killed at an apartment on West Cornwallis Drive in Greensboro last month, a Greensboro Police Department news release states.

On Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody. He was charged earlier this month with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, police said.

Greensboro police said he is being held in a juvenile detention center.

On July 19 around 10 a.m., Greensboro police were told someone who had been shot arrived at Greensboro Fire Station 5 on Westover Terrace.

The victim said he had been shot at an apartment in the 2200 block of West Cornwallis Drive where he said there was another victim.

The victim who went to the fire station was taken to the hospital for treatment and released.    

The second victim, identified as Christopher Bennet, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bennet’s family has been notified of the arrest.
