IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – A Statesville motorcyclist died in a crash Thursday morning, according to a news release.
Police say 35-year-old Dustin Pope was traveling north on I-77, around 1:40 a.m. when he failed to reduce speed and collided with a 1998 International box truck.
Pope was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the box truck, Ruben Anore, 45 of Charlotte, was not injured.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision.
