The chimp turns to grab a water bottle which was in his habitat, before turning back towards the viewing deck.

Suddenly, the primate leaps to gain momentum, before throwing the partially full water bottle at full force towards the girl filming.

The video then abruptly ends as you hear the force of the water bottle striking the zoo visitor.

Her phone tumbles to the ground before she grabs it, and grabs her head where it was struck.

The age of the girl is unknown, but she was visiting the zoo with her mother when the animal got agitated.

Nanning Zoo told local media they are investigating the case and and could not comment on anything that happened.

Only a few weeks ago, another primate at the zoo threw mud and dirt at a woman as she walked around his enclosure.

The woman told local media the primate followed her all around the enclosure, even as she hid from it.

As of now it’s unclear if the ape is the same one in this most recent incident, but the zoo is investigating.

Nanning Zoo has come under fire in recent years, including in 2019 when they glued a basket to a tortoise’s shell.

The basket, complete with a mini Chinese flag, was glued on the helpless animal so tourists could “throw coins in it for good luck”.

The poor African-spurred tortoise is classified as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

According to local media, a zoo worker responded angrily to the viral photo on Weibo.

She said: “We had an orangutan that died and no one cared. Now everyone is condemning us for sticking a basket on a tortoise’s shell!”

PETA Asia press officer Keith Guo told AsiaWire: “Tortoises belong in the wild, they are not a tool for people to make money.

“The zoo should listen to the outcry of the Chinese public and send the tortoise to a sanctuary.
