NAPLES, Fla. — Mechanics working on a routine oil change found a bunny that was hiding in the undercarriage of a car.

It started as a normal service call for the crew working at the Germain BMW of Naples location on David Boulevard in East Naples.

It’s after they got the BMW sedan up on the lift that they heard something out of the ordinary.

“When we were about ready to drain the oil, we noticed that there was a scratching noise from the bottom of the car,” said Kyle Fridh.

Fridh was overseeing a younger mechanic on the job. With 16 years of experience, even he was stumped by the sound he was hearing coming from the bottom of the car.

“Somebody scratching against the wall really fast,” described Fridh.

Could it be a bad part? Nope. A leak of some sort? That’s not it. A critter cramped up under the car? Now we’re onto something.

“I brought out my phone and I see him and I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s in the motor mount area,’” said Noah Caprisien.

The “he” Casprisen is referring to is a full-grown bunny that was tucked away above the plastic undercarriage of the vehicle near the motor.

They started to take off the plastic pieces to rescue the bunny. Meanwhile, Caprisien started recording what was about to happen.

Not only was the bunny alive, but it made the entire trip to the dealership… and who knows where else — without the owner of the vehicle knowing.

“No, I don’t think they had any idea,” Fridh said.

Their running theory is the bunny took up refuge in the motor mount during the cold snap last week. The heat from the engine and exhaust likely came across as a cozy cove to spend an evening.

As they managed to take the plastic pieces away, the bunny was in their hands before jumping to the ground. Another mechanic, Wilton, took off after the bunny, chasing it through the garage and diving after it not once — but twice. Meanwhile, Caprisien was recording.

“I started recording and I was like, ‘When’s the right moment to record,’” he said.

The moment couldn’t have been more perfect. The company posted the video to social media, where it gathered more than 100 likes and comments.

“We didn’t know who was moving faster, the bunny or our employee,” said Fridh.

“I don’t know how he caught up with him. Normally a guy like me, I can’t keep up,” added Caprisien. “But he like caught up. He caught up pretty good.”

After what seemed like 20 seconds of a Tom and Jerry episode, Wilton finally caught the bunny. Both he and his new friend were without a scratch.

“The bunny was released outside the door into the mulch and I think he went back to his bunny home,” Fridh said.

As for if you can do anything to prevent this very thing from happening to your car, Fridh said this is a very rare case. It’s the first time he’s seen it in 16 years at Germain BMW.

If you do hear something out of the ordinary, it’s always best to take your vehicle to get checked out.
