Media Bias Fact Check selects and publishes fact checks from around the world. We only utilize fact-checkers that are either a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) or have been verified as credible by MBFC. Further, we review each fact check for accuracy before publishing. We fact-check the fact-checkers and let you know their bias. When appropriate, we explain the rating and/or offer our own rating if we disagree with the fact-checker. (D. Van Zandt)

Claim Codes: Red = Fact Check on a Right Claim, Blue = Fact Check on a Left Claim, Black = Not Political/Conspiracy/Pseudoscience/Other

Fact Checker bias rating Codes: Red = Right-Leaning, Green = Least Biased, Blue = Left-Leaning, Black = Unrated by MBFC

MISLEADING Claim via Social Media: Electric vehicles are not green, manufacturing their batteries is environmentally unfriendly and they can emit more greenhouse gas than comparable fossil-fuel vehicles.

Science Feedback rating: Misleading (Batteries are greenhouse-gas-intensive to manufacture, and an electric vehicle’s production-related emissions are higher than those of an equivalent fossil-fuel-powered vehicle. But an electric vehicle makes up for those emissions as it operates, since it does not have an internal combustion engine producing emissions.)

In most cases, electrifying cars reduces their emissions

TRUE Claim via Social Media: On April 10, 2020, Kamala Harris posted to X thanking the rapper Diddy for hosting a town hall about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Snopes.com rating: True (“Thank you, @Diddy, for hosting this town hall last night. There’s a lot at stake for our communities right now and it’s critical we bring to the forefront how coronavirus is perpetuating racial inequality and health disparities.”)

Harris Posted Tweet Thanking Diddy for Hosting Town Hall?

MOSTLY
FALSE
Claim by Jon Tester (D): “Tim Sheehy told us his health care plan: ‘We need to return health care to pure privatization.’ That would eliminate Medicare.”

PolitiFact rating: Mostly False (Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy used the term “pure privatization” when discussing the U.S. health care system during an August 2023 event. However, he did not say he intended to eliminate Medicare. The Sheehy campaign confirmed that he does not support eliminating Medicare.)

In Montana U.S. Senate race, Jon Tester exaggerates Tim Sheehy’s Medicare position

FALSE (International: Israel): An Israeli newspaper has reported that Jews are not genetically tied to the Middle East and will be deported to Ukraine.

Australian Associated Press rating: False (The article is satirical and was published to ridicule anti-Semitism.)

Crafty crop used to spread disinformation about Israeli Jews
