BOSTON (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Senate continued budget debates at the State House Thursday where legislators are working through 1,100 proposed amendments.

When it was proposed by Governor Healey, this budget was an almost $58-billion spending plan. Now, over twenty-four hours into their budget deliberations, senators have addressed or withdrawn over half of the amendments filed.

Among those accepted is Senator John Velis’ “Addressing Antisemitism” amendment, which was passed unanimously.

“Five states in America make up more than fifty percent of Anti-Semetic incidents. Massachusetts is one of them,” said Velis. “Last night’s amendment was essentially us saying enough is enough.”

Among other passed amendments are increased funding for children’s behavioral health, benefits for women veterans, and increased aid for rural schools, like those in western Massachusetts.

Senate budget deliberations are expected to continue for several more hours, but legislators say they expect to finish late Thursday or early Friday morning.
