(FOX40.COM) — A man arrested on Saturday following a fight with a Sacramento County K9 deputy will appear in court on Wednesday, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Ryan Hanka, 37, was arrested on Saturday after deputies were called to respond to reports of a fight involving Hanka and a woman.
Deputies recognized Hanka’s name as he already had an arrest warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and a history of being violent with law enforcement.
When deputies arrived at the reported location they found Hanka armed with a baseball bat and a blunt object, according to the sheriff’s office.
As deputies attempted to place Hanka in custody, he attacked K9 Nik0 by punching, kicking and striking the dog with the baseball bat.
During the fight with deputies, Hanka attempted to draw a deputy’s firearm from their holster before he was eventually brought down.
After being cleared from the hospital, Hanka was placed into the Sacramento County Main Jail where he is facing multiple felony charges and is ineligible for bail.
Niko and the other deputies have recovered from their injuries and returned to work.
