HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An investigation got underway in northwest Houston on Sunday morning after a 71-year-old man was found dead inside a home, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers with HPD arrived at the 4300 block of W. 34th Street at an apartment complex just before 6 a.m.

Units forced their way inside apartment number 19 to discover the victim dead on arrival. According to police, it looked as if someone beat the man to death.

Investigators, within an hour, found a suspect and identified him as the victim’s stepson, who was arrested about one mile from the scene.

Officials have said he is being questioned at this time. Officials did not elaborate on if there was any motive.

Sgt. Michael Cass with the homicide division said this is not something you want to see on a day like this.

“It’s really sad that we see this, especially on Father’s Day,” he said.
