Man held with 6.17 kg opium, 1.3 kg marijuana in Pune – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

The Pune city police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old man at the Mahatma Phule Mandai — a key vegetable market in the heart of the city — for allegedly selling marijuana and opium.
The accused has been identified as Jagdish Kaluti Jat, a native of Chittod in Rajasthan, currently residing near Mandai in Pune.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by inspector Sunil Thopte and sub-inspector S D Narke laid a trap and nabbed Jat near gate number 1 of Mandai on Friday. During searches, police recovered 6.167 kg of opium worth Rs 92,505 along with 1.3 kg of marijuana worth Rs 26,000 from his possession.
An FIR was lodged under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Vishrambag police station, said officials.
Investigation is underway to find out from where and how he procured the contraband. ens
