Man charged with NC murder after Amber Alert involving daughter who was found safe

PEMBROKE, N.C. (WBTW) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder in Robeson County after an investigation that led to an Amber Alert involving his 9-year-old daughter, who was later found safe, authorities said.

Claude Leslie Werrell, 50, was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill after Wednesday’s incident, according to Robeson County jail records.

No additional information was immediately available. Pembroke Police Chief Adrian Hunt said more information about the investigation would be released later in the week.
