Officials say they arrested 59-year-old Richard Moore in Los Angeles on suspicion of killing 69-year-old Madeline Garcia in 1984.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Police arrested a man 40 years after allegedly killing a woman in Roseville, according to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials say they arrested 59-year-old Richard Moore in Los Angeles on suspicion of killing 69-year-old Madeline Garcia in 1984.

The DA’s office says the homicide happened in the 300 Block of Atlantic Street where Garcia was “attacked and dragged into an alley, where she was ultimately murdered.”

Though many of the detectives who worked on the case originally have retired, officials say they continued investigating which led them to identifying Moore as a suspect.

The DA’s office partially credits advancements in forensic techniques and technology along with detectives leading to Moore’s arrest.

Moore was taken into custody by Los Angeles Police Department officers and will be taken to Placer County where he will later be arraigned on his charges.

No other information is available at this time.
