BOSTON (WWLP) – U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey, along with members of the Massachusetts delegation announced that the General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport in Boston will receive over $22 million in federal funding.

The $22.1 in federal funding is from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program, which passed in November of 2021, according to their website. Funding was also awarded to 70 other airports throughout the United States to help improve safety and efficiency.

The funds will be used for infrastructure improvements within Logan Airport, such as rehabilitating taxiway pavement, and lighting systems, and enhancing the Land and Hold Short Operations systems at four locations in the airport to meet FAA standards.

“Boston Logan is a vital hub for travelers in Massachusetts and beyond, and this federal funding from the Infrastructure Bill, which I fought hard to secure alongside the Massachusetts delegation, will help make much-needed improvements to Boston’s airport roadways and terminals,” said Senator Warren. “This investment will create new, good-paying jobs and continue to grow our local economy.”

“Logan Airport is Massachusetts’ gateway to the world,” said Senator Markey. “I am proud to have worked with Senator Warren and the Massachusetts delegation to secure this funding, propel Logan to new heights, and ensure our Commonwealth leads the way in airport operations and safety,” said Senator Markey.

“Massachusetts deserves state-of-the-art transportation and this investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in Logan Airport ensures the Commonwealth will remain an international destination for recreation and commerce,” said Congressman James P. McGovern. “It will bring existing systems, including taxiway pavement and lighting, to FAA standards and continue to build confidence that traveling to and from Massachusetts by air is safe and reliable.”

“These grants help airports across the Nation sustain and improve critical infrastructure to advance the safest, most efficient airport system in the world,” said FAA Associate Administrator for Airports, Shannetta R. Griffin, P.E.
