Local business owner reacts to final version of Minnesota recreational marijuana bill – InForum – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

CROOKSTON, Minn. — John Reitmeier is an owner of CannaCorners CBD and THC in Crookston. The business is doing so well they opened a second store in East Grand Forks earlier this week.

Reitmeier said if the proposed bill that would legalize recreational marijuana in Minnesota for those 21 and older becomes law they’ll be expanding again to open a separate dispensary business in 12 to 18 months.

“We expect that it’s going to be a completely different business in a completely different space,” Reitmeier said.

When it comes to the final version of the bill, Reitmeier said he’s pleased with how it’s come together.

“I don’t think we’re disappointed in any of the changes, whether a person can privately own five pounds or one and a half pounds isn’t a big issue,” Reitmeier said.

The one area of the bill that concerned him was how much tax would be imposed on marijuana sales. Even in that area, coming in at a 10% rate, Reitmeier said the final bill gets a passing grade.

“It did seem that they moved that up a little bit, but certainly not in an unreasonable place like some other states have gone,” Reitmeier said.

And with the bill allowing individuals to grow their own marijuana, up to 8 plants total, he doesn’t think that will slow down business at the dispensaries.
